    Edna Fraye McKnight, 92, of Aledo, formerly of Alexis, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, at the Mercer County Hospital, Aledo.

    Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at Alexis United Presbyterian Church with Pastor Phil Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Alexis Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, Jan. 2,after 3 p.m. at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis, where her family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to Alexis United Presbyterian Church, Mercer County YMCA or Bridger Cemetery.

    She was born Feb. 18, 1914, in Clay County, Iowa, near Terrill, Iowa. She was the daughter of Leroy L. and Mabel M. Worstall Shutes. The family lived in Estherville, Iowa, and in 1923 they moved to Bloomington, Ill., where Fraye graduated from Bloomington High School with the class of 1931.

    She worked with the Singer Sewing Machine Co. in Bloomington and Peoria and for the Humitube Co. in Peoria for six years. She came to work at the Rock Island Arsenal in March 1941 until October 1945.

    Fraye married William H. McKnight Nov. 8, 1945, at the First Christian Church in Bloomington. They made their home in Alexis, where she worked with her husband in the family businesses, McKnight Hardware Store and the McKnight Memorial Home. Mr. McKnight died April 28, 1972. She moved to Aledo in October 1993.

    She was a member of Alexis United Presbyterian Church for 60 years where she taught Sunday School for many years, sang in the choir, was ordained as an elder and deacon, served as Clerk of Session, and was active in the women's work of the church. She was also a member of Chapter G and H of PEO and Warren County Chapter of DAR. She was awarded a life membership in the work of Presbyterian Women.

    Survivors (and spouses) include her daughter, Ruth Elizabeth "Betsy" Latko, East Moline; three sons, William (Kathleen) McKnight, Frankfort, Ill., David (Jackie) McKnight, Aledo, and Roger (Mary Jo) McKnight, Glen Carbon, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Edith Teesdale, Lexington, Ky.; one sister-in-law, Rodna Shutes, Talent, Ore.; six nieces; and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Ogden Shutes; one sister, Ruth Shutes; and one daughter-in-law, Ruth Nall McKnight.

    ALEDO - Edna Fraye McKnight, 92, Aledo, formerly of Alexis, died at 2:22 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 30, 2006) at Mercer County Hospital.

    She was born Feb. 18, 1914, in Clay County, Iowa, the daughter of Leroy L. and Mabel M. (Worstall) Shutes.

    She married William H. McKnight on Nov. 8, 1945, in Bloomington. He died April 28, 1972.

    Surviving are a daughter, Ruth Elizabeth "Betsy" Latko, East Moline; three sons, William (and Kathleen) McKnight, Frankfort, David (and Jackie) McKnight, Aledo, and Roger (and Mary Jo) McKnight, GlenCarbon; a sister, Edith Teesdale, Lexington, Ky.; a sister-in-law, Rodna Shutes, Talent, Ore.; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and six nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ogden Shutes; a sister, Ruth Shutes; and a daughter-in-law, Ruth Nall McKnight.

    She graduated from Bloomington High School in 1931.
